Hotel Industry
Upon leaving school I had the ambition to travel and experience different cultures. My first job at the age of 14 gave me a great deal of work confidence. I worked in a Cafe and started by washing up, which led to serving and then working on the counter.
In 2000 I was offered work at The Beachfield Hotel in Penzance. The photo was taken during this time. I worked as a Receptionist and Duty Manager. The hotel was small which meant I was able to learn about the whole business and enjoyed the diversity of the work. During my time in Penzance I enrolled on a course with the Tourist Information Centre and was Certificated as a Welcome Host.
In 2001 I was asked to move to Manchester and work for Holiday Inn as a Duty Manager and Guest Services Manager. The hotel was much bigger and I took advantage of being in a city with a good airport. I enrolled on an 'Introduction to Air Cabin Crew' Course with the Airline Recruitment & Training Company and completed the Certificate on the 8th December 2001. However being still only 19 I had to wait till I was 21 to work as a member of Cabin Crew.

Skills and Experience
My role at Holiday Inn involved supervising and motivating a team, financial reconciliations and banking, maintenance of relationships with suppliers and placing orders, management of various departments. I was involved in revenue management and was responsible for sales and marketing of the hotel. I ensured that daily task lists are completed by the on duty team, management of reception, bar, conference room and breakfast/dinner service including hands on support, ensuring hotel security, safety of guests including provision of first aid and taking control in an emergency situation. preparation of rotas ensuring correct levels of staff for business needs, revenue management to ensure profitability of hotel, showing prospective clients around hotel, marketing and sales of hotel facilities and knowledge of night audit procedures.
At the Beachfield Hotel I did Check-in/out, dealing with customer complaints, facilitating and organizing of wedding events, management of cleaning staff, ensuring health and safety checks had been done, taking bookings, greeting group bookings, speaking other languages. Assisting in the management of the kitchen and restaurant.
I am a flexible person with good time management skills. I have good leadership skills and am good at working under pressure and prioritising my workload.
